About Deborah Orr

Deborah Orr, a dedicated educator and acclaimed children's book author, has championed literacy and creative expression among young learners in Austin for over twenty years. Her tireless efforts have opened doors to education for countless children in underserved communities, fostering a love of learning through engaging programs and captivating stories. Her work with Outreach Productions, a non-profit organization she founded in 1994, focuses on building reading and writing skills through the arts, making learning an exciting and engaging experience for countless children.


Deborah's journey to education was not without its challenges. Despite facing a difficult upbringing, she persevered with the encouragement of her family. Through a work-study program, she discovered Wayne Community College, where she thrived academically and went on to attend Michigan State University and the University of Texas at Austin. Drawing inspiration from her own experiences, she launched her enrichment program and embarked on a fulfilling career as an author, sharing her love of learning and creativity with children throughout the Austin community.
